Ace Hardware Expanding Distribution Facility for Imported Products

Ace Hardware Corp. plans to expand its Virginia facility that serves as the co-op’s central location for receiving imported products on the East Coast.

The project will expand the facility in Suffolk, Virginia, by 138,000 square feet, growing its size to 474,000 square feet. The co-op has slated construction to start in April and finish in November.

“Ace’s continued year-over-year sales growth has fueled our need for a larger facility in Suffolk,” says Lori Bossmann, executive vice president of supply chain, inventory replenishment and retail support. “We’re pleased that the city of Suffolk and (property developer) CenterPoint Properties are able to accommodate our needs as we continuously grow our operations facilities to meet the needs of our business demands.”

The existing facility receives imported merchandise through the Port of Virginia. Once the expansion is completed, Ace will distribute products received at the facility to 10 of the co-op’s 14 retail support centers, serving Ace retail stores as far as Texas, New York and Florida.

The Port of Virginia moves cargo from around the world.

“Ace Hardware was one of the first companies to choose the Port of Virginia as a location to deploy their supply chain diversification strategy and this announcement speaks to Virginia’s ability to cultivate and grow businesses as well as compete in the global marketplace,” says John Reinhart, CEO and executive director of the Virginia Port Authority.
