President and CEO
Bill Lee has been President and CEO of NRHA since 2008. Bill has held various positions during his 18 years with the organization, including Director of Marketing, Vice President of Creative Services and Publisher of Hardware Retailing magazine. As president, Bill helps guide NRHA in its mission to help hardware stores, home centers and lumberyards become better, more profitable retailers. NRHA fulfills this mission by providing retail training, communications, market research and networking opportunities for the independent home improvement market.
Chief Operating Officer
As chief operating officer, Bob is responsible for the overall sales function and performance of Hardware Retailing magazine for NRHA. Over the past nine years, Bob has also led the Catalog division for the company. Bob’s entrepreneurial background includes several years spent in a corporate printing environment working with independent business owners.
Bob is a graduate of the University of West Florida in Pensacola, Florida. He resides in Greenwood, Indiana, with his wife and son. In his free time, Bob enjoys outdoor activities, including golf, coaching youth softball and spending time with family.
Executive Vice President and Publisher
In his position as publisher of Hardware Retailing magazine, Dan has the opportunity to visit with independent retailers of all types and sizes and use these visits to shape the editorial direction of the magazine to meet the needs of the independent hardware retail market. Dan also oversees NRHA’s other publishing projects, which include a range of special interest publications, contract publishing titles, online content and more. Dan formerly worked as an editor and reporter for Hardware Retailing and has been involved in business journalism and news reporting for the past two decades.
Director of Communications
Whitney and her team contribute to the creative development of NRHA and Hardware Retailing magazine’s brand identities, marketing and advertising campaigns, events, websites and print and interactive publications. Her team works to provide independent retailers with quality information and tools to help them become better and more profitable. Whitney graduated from Indiana University with a degree in Journalism also focusing in Graphic Design. She recently completed an executive education program at Yale University.
Special Projects Editor
Liz is the special projects editor at NRHA. She reports on news and trends, visits retailers and attends industry events. She graduated from Xavier University, where she earned a degree in English and Spanish and was a member of the swim team. Liz is a Louisville, Kentucky, native who lives in Indianapolis with her husband and daughter. She enjoys swimming, reading, doing home improvement projects around her house and cheering on her two favorite basketball teams, the Kentucky Wildcats and the Xavier Musketeers.
Melanie is the features editor for Hardware Retailing magazine. Originally from South Bend, Indiana, she studied professional writing at York College of Pennsylvania, and then worked in central Pennsylvania for several years after college as a barista and an editor. She returned to the Hoosier State in late 2016 to join the NRHA team. She enjoys cooking new recipes for her husband to try and watching documentaries with her cat.
Renee Changnon is an assistant editor for Hardware Retailing magazine. She reports on industry news and new products, visits retailers and attends industry events. She graduated from Illinois State University, where she earned a degree in Visual Journalism and was the features editor for the school newspaper, The Daily Vidette. After college, Renee worked for Jimmy John’s, where she implemented marketing and promotions initiatives at franchise locations across the country. Renee is from Champaign, Illinois, and is new to Indianapolis. She enjoys reading, Netflix marathons and exploring her new city with friends and family.
Kate is an assistant editor for Hardware Retailing magazine. She reports on news and industry events. She graduated from Cedarville University in her home state of Ohio, where she earned a B.A. in English and minored in creative writing. She loves being an aunt, teaching writing to kids, running, reading long books, farm living and, as Walt Whitman says, traveling the open road, “healthy, free, the world before me.”
Chad is an assistant editor for Hardware Retailing magazine. A Purdue University graduate, Chad has covered sports and news at the high school, college and Olympic levels as a sports writer, editor and designer for multiple newspapers. Prior to joining the NRHA, he was the sports editor for the Herald Journal in Monticello, Indiana, and a designer and copy editor for the AIM Media Indiana group in Columbus, Indiana. When not cultivating his beard, he enjoys backpacking, cooking, traveling and watching too much sports and Netflix.
Todd is an assistant editor for Hardware Retailing magazine. An Indiana native, he graduated from Indiana University where he majored in journalism and French. Throughout his career, he has aimed to highlight small businesses and their community value. He joined NRHA in 2017 and now serves on the news and marketing teams. In his free time, he likes to run, spend time with family and work his way through Charles Dickens’ bibliography.
Marketing and Research Coordinator
As marketing and research coordinator, it’s Hilary’s duty to keep retailers informed about NRHA products and services and to help coordinate industry research projects. Additionally, Hilary is the voice behind NRHA’s and Hardware Retailing’s social media accounts. She appreciates a good book, spicy food, well-made horror films, craft beer and exploring new places near and far.
Lynnea is the lead graphic designer for Hardware Retailing magazine, where she works on the layout and design of the magazine and other custom publications. She also does print design for NRHA’s marketing materials, programs and other in-house projects. Lynnea graduated from Ball State University with a degree in Graphic Design. She lives in her hometown of Greenwood, Indiana. During her free time, she enjoys designing, painting, reading and volunteering at her family-owned childcare facility
Graeme graduated from Butler University in 2014 with a Bachelor of Arts degree. Shortly after walking the stage, Graeme started working as a graphic designer for Hardware Retailing magazine, where he designs different parts of the magazine and assists with other custom publications. Graeme also does video production and editing. In his free time, Graeme is accustomed to trying new things (at least once!), such as musicals, water skiing and bungee jumping.
Kelsey is a graphic designer for Hardware Retailing. She graduated from Marian University in 2013 with a Bachelors in Graphic Design and a minor in Photography and Art History. In her free time she enjoys playing paintball with her husband and spoiling her yellow lab.
Kevin’s strong passion for User Experience design and proficiency with various Web technologies landed him the role of “The Web Guy” at the NRHA. He graduated from IUPUI in May 2014 with a Bachelor’s Degree in Media Arts and Science and a Certificate in Computer Science. He has a pet ball python named Daenerys, he loves creating digital 3D art, and he perpetually craves sushi. He is also the president of the Indianapolis Guild of Extra Life, a nonprofit organization that aims to help raise money for Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals through various video game-related events, such as marathons and tournaments.
As production manager of Hardware Retailing magazine, Nancy coordinates with the printers, editors and design teams to get Hardware Retailing and all client publications to the printer on time. This includes securing print schedules, creating folios for all publications and making sure all advertising material is received and is to the required specifications. Nancy has held various positions in her 35 years at NRHA, working on Hardware Retailing in each of these positions.
Sales & Production Assistant
As production assistant for Hardware Retailing magazine, Freda works very closely with the Hardware Retailing sales team in collecting ad insertion orders, gathering advertisers’ production materials and invoicing advertisers monthly. In addition, she also assists in marketing mailings and oversees the NRHA mailroom. Freda has been employed at NRHA for over 31 years.
