New Homesense Chain Is ‘Reminiscent of a Home Depot or Lowe’s’

The company that owns T.J. Maxx and HomeGoods in the U.S. has introduced a new big-box chain in Massachusetts that is “more reminiscent of a Home Depot or Lowe’s,” according to CNBC.

Homesense has a showroom for furniture and home decor, and contains a “‘General Store’ that sells cleaning supplies and home improvement essentials like hardware, outdoor fixtures and mailboxes,” CNBC reports.

The first store, which opened Aug. 17, is the first of four Homesense locations planned for the U.S. in 2017, owner The TJX Companies says in its most recent quarterly report.

The next store will open in September in New Jersey, CNBC says.

TJX already operates nearly 200 similar HomeSense stores in Canada and Europe, according to the quarterly report.

“Again, we are seeing great opportunity for the future of our company within the U.S. home sector,” TJX CEO Ernie Herrman says in the CNBC article.
