Retail Jobs Added in June – But Not in Building Materials Category

Nearly 23,000 new retail jobs were added in June, but not in the building materials category, according to the National Retail Federation.

Total retail employment – excluding car dealerships, gas stations and restaurants – increased by 212,000 jobs on a year-over-year basis, according to the federation. All retail categories experienced job increases, except for building materials and sporting goods.

“June’s results point to continued improvement in the labor market and is consistent with a rebound in economic activity,” says Jack Kleinhenz, the organization’s chief economist. “The bigger picture shows that the economy is making further progress into the expansion phase of the recovery cycle.”
