Painting is a relatively quick, easy and inexpensive project that can change the look of a room in a weekend, so it’s no surprise that many homeowners want to pick up a gallon of paint and a new roller for a weekend project.
But they still have questions: What brand of paint? What type of brush? How do I know which of several similar colors is my best option for the project?
Your vendors may be able to help. In the photo below, Valspar has created easy-to-read signage that explains—and shows—the difference between interior paint sheens.
Owner Craig Buckalew hung this sign in the paint department at his store, Crookston Hardware Hank in Crookston, Minnesota. “It also helps in explaining washability versus hiding imperfections,” he says. “We also tell our customers to consider other factors, such as the cozy feel of a room with warm tones and lower sheen level.”
Even if your vendor doesn’t offer this kind of signage, there’s no reason you can’t create your own to place in shelf talkers or on the paint counter.
