Young Retailer of the Year Deadline Approaching

When’s the deadline to submit my nomination?

Feb. 28 is the final day to throw your hat into the ring and vie for one of the industry’s top honors. A panel of judges will review every nomination and find the young retailers who are leading the industry forward, uniting their operations and their communities to distinguish themselves. Honorees will be acknowledged during a special reception in Las Vegas on May 7.

Who’s eligible for the Young Retailer of the Year award?

The Young Retailer of the Year award program is open to anyone 35 years or younger who lives and works at a home improvement or hardware store in the U.S., its territories or Canada.

Retailers are chosen from three separate categories, including: retail outlets with sales under $2 million, retail outlets with sales over $2 million and retailers from multiple-store outlets.

What are the judges looking for?

The judges are on the hunt for truly remarkable young retailers. They’ll use four main criteria to select this year’s honorees.

• High points of career. Judges will review the entrant’s career milestones and learn how he or she has contributed to the success of their operation.
• Hardware education. Judges will take into account how the entrant has continued to improve their knowledge of the hardware and home improvement industry.
• Community involvement. Judges will search for young retailers who aim to improve their communities.
• Other activities. Judges want to hear about the other ways young retailers are setting themselves apart from the rest.

What’s in it for retailers?

Being recognized as a Young Retailer of the Year is a momentous honor that has many benefits.

Honorees can earn scholarships to NRHA’s Retail Management Certification Program. They’ll also be invited to participate in collaborative roundtables to share their knowledge with key industry figures. Their accomplishments will be showcased at the Young Retailer of the Year award program in Las Vegas, where they can network directly with industry leaders. Most importantly, Young Retailer of the Year gives honorees a platform to excel.
