5 Reasons Why Your Business Should Be Blogging

The numbers speak for themselves: We’re online and we’re online a lot. According to the Digital 2021 Report from We Are Social and Hootsuite, over 4.6 billion people use the internet and we spend an average of almost seven hours online each day.

From their website to social media channels, businesses have multiple touch points to reach consumers online. Retailers looking for another way to connect with consumers can use blogging as a way to share information and engage with customers. Here are five reasons why home improvement retailers should be blogging regularly.

1). Blogging drives traffic to your website. The more content you add to your website, the more likely you are to show up in search results.  Each blog post you write and add to the site is one more opportunity for your website to show up in users’ searches, leading potential customers to your website. Search engines constantly look for new content on websites and rank sites that update consistently higher.

2). Blogs supply additional content for your social media. Every blog post you write can serve double duty, as you can also use content from that post to share on social media. Often, you can also get more than one social media post out of a blog post, breaking down the blog into several quick-to-digest snippets for Facebook, Instagram, Twitter and more.

3). Blog posts convert website visitors into customers. Once you get someone to your blog, you can turn them into a customer by including a call-to-action in your blog posts. For example, if you write a how-to blog about changing out a light fixture, include a CTA in the blog post that leads customers to your e-commerce site and the tools or supplies they need for that job.

4). Blog articles position you as a subject matter expert. Informational posts, such as how-to’s, give your customers access to helpful information and establish you as an expert they can turn to for help. These posts show that you want to help your customers and have the knowledge to guide them through different home improvement projects. They can also make a customer more likely to buy with you because you’ve established trust by providing credible information.

5). Blogging helps with link-building. Google’s algorithm looks at over 200 factors, including inbound links, which are links from another website that you include in your blog. Adding inbound links in a blog post is an easy way to boost your websites search results. But be sure they make sense; don’t just add links to add links. Linking to another one of your blog posts or other pages on your website is also helpful to make you more discoverable with search engines.
