Amazon Dash and Even More Automated Shopping

A tool from Amazon called Amazon Dash has given consumers the chance to restock consumable products with a button click — and customers’ options for using the Dash buttons are growing.

Recently, the program’s lineup of brands has more than tripled. Amazon Prime members can now choose from more than 100 Dash buttons representing brands across dozens of retail categories and thousands of products.

Consumers who have the buttons, which are programmed to order a specific product when pressed, can place a button in their home and instantly reorder items, such as bottles of laundry detergent, as needed.

“We’re thrilled with the positive response we’ve seen for Dash Buttons–and we heard loud and clear from customers that they wanted more brands, more categories and more products in the program,” says Daniel Rausch, director of Amazon Dash. “Prime members are using Dash Buttons at an increasing rate–over the last three months, Dash Button orders have grown by more than 75 percent. Customers are using Dash Buttons more than once a minute, helping ensure they never run out of their everyday essentials.”

Rather than simply encouraging shoppers to purchase consumable goods, “the program’s goal is to encourage more frequent and more regular retail purchases,” while moving toward increasingly automated retail, according to an article in The Atlantic.
