Kirk Reams, general manager of Hooten’s Hardware in Emory, Texas, started in the home improvement industry in high school at a local Ace Hardware, trying to learn every aspect of the business. He moved after four years to run the core hardware departments at Master’s True Value in Sulphur Springs, Texas. When helping a friend set a fastener assortment in Emory, Texas, the owner of the store, Lance Hooten, offered Reams a job as general manager.
