Changes in Workplace Collaboration

When it comes to the way people work, the dynamics of the workplace and interacting on person-to-person and digital levels is changing, according to industry experts who explored the changing nature of the workplace during a “Future of Work” event in June at Microsoft’s Technology Center in New York.

“Generations of instincts on how to run our companies are becoming counter-productive and everyone’s struggling with that. Suddenly long-term plans are becoming obsolete before you finish them,” said Adam Pisoni, co-founder of enterprise social network Yammer, at the event. “What everyone needs to do is optimize information flow.”

The changing role of middle management was among the topics discussed. Panelists explained that middle management jobs have changed drastically and it’s imperative for these employees to feel their voices are being heard. The panelists continued explaining that it’s not just about collaboration, but more whether the collaborations are getting things done.
