President and CEO
Born and raised in our nation’s capital, Bob’s entrepreneurial spirit comes from his own family’s independent business in the printing & publishing industry; serving the United States Senate and House of Representatives since the mid 1960’s. As Bob’s career evolved, he spent many years consulting and advocating for independent business owners within the printing and publishing community.
Prior to being elected President & CEO, Bob has held multiple roles within NHPA over the past 15 years: Chief Operating Officer, Vice President of Sales, Director of Catalog & Custom Publishing.
Bob is a graduate of the University of West Florida in Pensacola, Florida. He resides in Greenwood, Indiana, with his family. In his free time, Bob enjoys outdoor activities, including golf, hunting, fishing and managing a travel baseball club and spending time with family.
Chief Operating Officer and Publisher
In his position as executive vice president of publishing of Hardware Retailing magazine, Dan has the opportunity to visit with independent retailers of all types and sizes and use these visits to shape the editorial direction of the magazine to meet the needs of the independent hardware retail market. Dan also oversees NHPA’s other publishing projects, which include a range of special interest publications, contract publishing titles, online content and more. Dan formerly worked as an editor and reporter for Hardware Retailing and has been involved in business journalism and news reporting for the past two decades.
Executive Director of Marketing and Communications
Whitney and her team contribute to the creative development of NHPA and Hardware Retailing magazine’s brand identities, marketing and advertising campaigns, events, websites and print and interactive publications. Her team works to provide independent retailers with quality information and tools to help them become better and more profitable. Whitney graduated from Indiana University with a degree in Journalism also focusing in Graphic Design. She recently completed an executive education program at Yale University.
Executive Director of Paint and Paint Programs
LeAnn has a passion for supporting independent business owners. For the past 15 years, LeAnn has worked in the paint, flooring, lighting and construction industries developing and implementing programs geared toward helping independent retailers increase profitability and give them a stronger voice in their industries. As the executive director of paint and decorating programs for NHPA, LeAnn is introducing paint retailers to the opportunities that are available to them through the association, which expanded its membership to include paint retailers in the fall of 2020. LeAnn has a bachelor’s degree from the University of Missouri-St. Louis in marketing and communications, and she earned her MBA from Lindenwood University. She lives in St. Louis with her daughter Jayden and their dog Kevin.
Corporate Communications Manager and Editor
Julie Leinwand is the corporate communications manager and editor for NHPA. She graduated from the Missouri School of Journalism. In her spare time, she enjoys baking fanciful desserts and spending time with her puppies and husband.
Melanie is the managing editor for Hardware Retailing magazine. Originally from South Bend, Indiana, she worked in central Pennsylvania for several years after earning her professional writing degree. She returned to the Hoosier State in late 2016 to join the NHPA team. In her spare time, she enjoys testing new recipes and watching online makeup tutorials. She and her husband are raising their son and two fur children in Indianapolis.
Products and Digital Editor
Born in Indiana and raised in Indiana, Germany and Virginia, Hans has worked for NHPA since 2001. He has a B.A. in English from Indiana University and is a published fantasy and science-fiction author. His hobbies include cooking, especially smoking meats, tabletop and video games and supporting space sciences and science education.
Kate is the profiles editor for Hardware Retailing magazine, connecting with retailers throughout the industry and sharing their stories in the magazine and online. She graduated from Cedarville University in her home state of Ohio, where she earned a B.A. in English and minored in creative writing. She loves being an aunt, teaching writing to kids, running, reading long books, farm living and, as Walt Whitman says, traveling the open road, “healthy, free, the world before me.”
Lindsey joined the NHPA staff in 2021 as an associate editor for Hardware Retailing magazine. A native of Ohio, Lindsey earned a B.S. in journalism and minors in business and sociology from Ohio University. She loves spending time with her husband, two kids, two cats and one dog, as well as doing DIY projects around the house, going to concerts, boating and cheering on the Cleveland Indians.
Aubrey is the senior designer for Hardware Retailing and Paint & Decorating Retailer magazines. She focuses on creating exciting layouts for the print publications and managing their brands on all of their platforms. She graduated with a degree in journalism graphics from Ball State University in 2014. She enjoys writing songs and playing on her guitar as well as accidentally turning her living quarters into a greenhouse.
Autumn is a graphic designer for NHPA. Her primary focus is designing layouts for Hardware Retailing and Paint & Decorating Retailer magazines. She graduated with a degree in journalism graphics from Ball State University. She worked as an assistant design editor for a newspaper company before finding her home at NHPA. Autumn loves spending quality time with her inquisitive 7-year-old son. She also enjoys face painting, cooking and listening to the Hamilton soundtrack on repeat.
Digital Media Specialist
Kevin’s strong passion for media production landed him the role of podcast and video producer at NHPA. He graduated from IUPUI in May 2014 with a Bachelor’s Degree in Media Arts and Science and a Certificate in Computer Science. He loves merging his technical and creative strengths and he perpetually craves sushi. He is also involved with the Indianapolis Guild of Extra Life, a nonprofit organization that raises money for Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals through various video game-related events, such as marathons and tournaments.
As production manager for NHPA, Austin works with printers, editors, designers and the sales team to ensure Hardware Retailing, Paint & Decorating Retailer and other publishing projects get to print on time. Austin graduated from Ball State University in 2014 with a degree in Advertising. He and his wife Molly enjoy cooking, traveling and supporting local businesses all around Indianapolis
Sales and Production Assistant
As production assistant for Hardware Retailing magazine, Freda works very closely with the Hardware Retailing sales team in collecting ad insertion orders, gathering advertisers’ production materials and invoicing advertisers monthly. In addition, she also assists in marketing mailings and oversees the NHPA mailroom. Freda has been employed at NHPA for over 35 years.
