Do it Best Adds 2 New Executives

Do it Best Corp. has announced the promotion of two of the company’s employees.

Steve Markley, formerly the vice president of merchandising, will now serve as the company’s new executive vice president of operations.

William “Dent” Johnson, previously a divisional merchandise manager for the company, will now serve as its vice president of merchandising.

Steve Markley

Markley has more than 30 years of industry experience. He has served in a number of roles throughout his career, including as a manufacturer’s representative. In 1998, he began to work as the company’s divisional merchandise manager for electrical, hardware, global sourcing and other initiatives. In 2007, he advanced to become the vice president of merchandising.

“I’m both humbled and excited to have the opportunity to work with our very talented and strong teams in IT, LBM, Logistics, Marketing, Merchandising, and Sales,” Markley says. “Our combined members-first mentality continues to deliver outstanding results, and we look forward to driving additional value to Do it Best members across the country and around the world.”

Do it Best president and CEO Dan Starr says the two appointments will strengthen the company and provide valuable resources to retailers.

“We’ve been making considerable strategic investments in the company to ensure that Do it Best is the first and best choice for independent home improvement businesses,” Starr says. “That includes investment in information technology, our distribution system and building the best team. We are fortunate to have someone of Steve’s caliber and extensive abilities ready to lead our teams forward as we drive growth for our member-owners through our supply chain excellence.”

William “Dent” Johnson

With Markley’s promotion, Johnson becomes the vice president of merchandising. He will oversee hardware product purchasing, global sourcing, inventory control, as well as category and content management among other duties.

Johnson joined Do it Best in 2018, working with several product category teams on strategic program development, vendor negotiations and promotional opportunities. Previously, he worked for Michelin Tire Corporation.

“Already in my time at Do it Best, I’ve been very impressed by the intense commitment our team has to serve our member-owners,” Johnson says. “I’m honored to carry on the great work already underway as we further our initiatives to ensure that Do it Best is the first and best choice for independent home improvement businesses.”

Based in Fort Wayne, Indiana, Do it Best is the only U.S.-based, member-owned hardware, lumber and building materials buying cooperative in the home improvement industry.
