Ex-Lowe’s Employee Files Discrimination Lawsuit

A former Lowe’s employee has sued the home improvement company, saying he suffered sexual discrimination.

Adam Haimowitz of Tallman, New York, says his frequent complaints about the discrimination weren’t taken seriously by Lowe’s human resources employees, according to an article from USA Today.  His co-workers sexually harassed him for years for being gay, he says in the lawsuit.

A few discriminatory encounters included “a manager who asked for oral sex and a co-worker who joked when he cut his finger that he might infect someone with AIDS,” the article says.

The company fired Haimowitz “in retaliation for his testimony on behalf of another gay employee who sued for sexual harassment,” the article says.

Haimowitz worked for nearly 11 years at a Lowe’s store in Orangeburg, New York, the article says. The company fired him in August 2014.

“If one or two people stand up, maybe it will encourage other people to stand up or come forward,” Haimowitz says in the article.
