Help Customers Prepare for Damaging Storms

Just as expert meteorologists predicted, the delayed storm season has started off in a damaging and devastating manner. As homeowners head to hardware stores the next few weeks to prepare for the next storm outbreak, retailers should be armed with the products and knowledge to help customers choose the right hardware to protect their homes, barns and sheds.

  • Windows and Doors: Understand the different rating systems, and ensure homeowners use impact-rated windows and doors that are designed to accommodate harsh weather conditions. Offer hurricane shutters as a less expensive option.
  • Corrosion Resistance: Lead customers toward corrosion-resistant hardware that can withstand harsh weather conditions. For example, a variety of Stanley-National Hardware products including Safety Hasps and Wire Cable Clamps are protected with WeatherGuard™, which is formulated to withstand the harshest weather conditions and greatly enhance the lifespan of hardware products.
  • Down to the Nail: Recommend ring-shank nails that have a spiral feature in the shank. This can increase the holding power of the nail by 50 to 100 percent.

Retailers should expect an influx in questions and product inquiries from customers in the next few weeks on what is best for protecting homes. Merchants can be prepared by understanding the multitude of hardware options and which are most beneficial to homeowners looking to secure their homes.
