Home Hardware Wins Large Fleet Safety Award

Home Hardware Stores Limited was recognized with the Private Motor Truck Council of Canada (PMTC) Large Fleet Safety Award. PMTC and Aviva Canada announced the awards for Canadian Private Fleet Safety as part of the annual conference in Hamilton, Ontario.

The competition is open to all Canadian private carriers and judged by an independent panel. Criteria include the company’s overall safety regime and over-the-road record.

“For close to 60 years, Home Hardware Stores Limited has operated one of the most visible private fleets in the country,” says Jason Libralesso, director of transportation for Home Hardware Stores Limited. “Every year our truck drivers travel millions of miles, delivering quality products to our dealers, all while keeping road safety top of mind.”

At the PMTC’s annual conference, Alvin Carter, a longtime driver for Home Hardware Stores Limited, was also inducted into the Hall of Fame for Professional Drivers. Carter joined Home Hardware in 1988 and retired in 2022 after 34 years of service. His career includes 40 years of accident and incident-free driving, spanning more than 2 million miles.

Home Hardware’s fleet is based in the company’s four distribution centers in St. Jacobs and Elmira, Ontario; Debert, Nova Scotia; and Wetaskiwin, Alberta. The fleet consists of 148 tractors, 605 trailers and two straight trucks with an impressive Commercial Vehicle Operator’s Registration violation rate of 7.03%. So far in 2023, the fleet has covered nearly 13 million miles.
