Houzz Shares the Hottest Summer Design Trends

Reflecting a desire to create new living areas and improve existing spaces to fit current and future lifestyles, the hottest summer design trends go nontraditional and a little outside the box. Houzz surveyed its community of homeowners, home design enthusiasts and home professionals to find what’s next in home design, sharing the results of its findings in the 2023 Houzz U.S. Emerging Summer Trends Report

Here are four of the hottest trends for the summer you can share with your customers.

Taking advantage of underutilized spaces. Homeowners are looking to make previously underutilized areas of the home more functional. These projects include finishing a basement to create an additional space for watching movies, playing games and exercising.

Hitting the roof. People are increasingly utilizing their rooftops to expand livable space as well, particularly in metropolitan areas where outdoor space is hard to find. Searches for “rooftop deck” and “rooftop patio” grew by 90% and 40%, respectively.

More accessibility. As they renovate, homeowners are looking toward the future and making spaces more accessible. This trend is especially true of the bathroom, where homeowners are looking for more information on handicap-accessibility, handheld showerheads and curbless showers.

Kitchens with a commercial vibe. Along with offering all the bells and whistles the home chef could want, industrial-style kitchens are easy to clean and have high-traffic durability. Features like pull-down kitchen faucets and stainless steel kitchen counters are becoming more sought after.
