In Memoriam: Norbert Allen Newman

Norbert Allen Newman, 71, of Greenwood, Indiana, passed away unexpectedly on November 27. He was born on September 6, 1951, in Canandaigua, New York, to Danny Harry Newman and Lellean Joyce (Ostrander) Newman.

Norbert graduated with a degree in architecture from Onondaga Community College in Syracuse, New York. His first job was with the New York State Hardware Association, after which he relocated to Indianapolis to work for the National Retail Hardware Association. In 1989, Norbert opened Newman Design Group, where he was actively working at a career that he loved.

Norbert loved attending Colts games, traveling, playing golf, listening to music, dancing and spending time with his buddies, who he referred to as “the Knights of the Roundtable.” His favorite pastime was sitting on the deck watching the sunset, listening to the band Simply Red. He was an active, longtime member of Greenwood Christian Church, The Institute of Store Planners, Sons of American Legion, Indiana Seniors Golf Association and a former member of Dye’s Walk Country Club.

Norbert is survived by his wife of 37 years, Debra Lollar Newman; mother, Lellean Joyce Newman; sister, Lisa Darlene Rein; brother, Tracy Scott Newman; niece, Nicole Marie Newman; nephews, Daniel John Newman and Tyler Scott Newman; and several aunts, uncles, and cousins. He was preceded in death by his father, Danny Harry Newman, and his furbuddy, Ziggy.
