Independent Hardware Retailers Set Sights on Expansion

This year, nearly 85 precent of all independent home improvement retailers say they plan on adding new products to their stores and a full 66 percent say they plan to add or expand entire categories as ways to grow topline sales and differentiate their businesses.

This data came from a large-scale research project conducted by the North American Retail Hardware Association (NRHA) for its State of Independents Conference, sponsored by the National Hardware Show®.

This one-day event provides an opportunity for the industry to gather and specifically discuss and learn about the independent home improvement retail marketplace. Throughout the day, proprietary market research is presented and combined with live discussion panels with leading industry retailers.

For this year’s State of Independents Conference, which is scheduled for Dec. 8 at the Hyatt Regency O’Hare in Chicago, growth opportunities will once again be a focus.

“Last year retailers, manufacturers and distributors came together at the conference to discuss the challenges and opportunities facing independent home improvement retailers and we will address these same themes this year,” says Dan Tratensek, vice president with NRHA. “At this year’s conference we will dive a bit deeper into the research and discuss which areas of their businesses independent retailers plan to invest in.”

The State of Independents Conference is completely FREE for retailers to attend and breakfast, lunch and cocktails are provided. Seating is limited and preregistration is required. For more information or to register, please click here.
