NHPA Ambassador Dalton Meny Enjoys the Everyday Challenges of the Industry

The North American Hardware and Paint Association (NHPA) is excited to introduce the newly formed Ambassador Program in 2024. The program brings together a small group of NHPA members from across the industry who are passionate about the independent home improvement channel and have a deep involvement with the association. NHPA Ambassadors help connect their retailer networks to NHPA, encouraging retailers to become more involved with the association’s offerings, like online training, consulting, college-level courses and more. Meet NHPA Ambassador and retailer Dalton Meny, head of operations for three Meny’s True Value Hardware locations in southern Indiana.

What is your proudest moment as part of the independent channel?
I would say my proudest moment was being named a 2022 Young Retailer of the Year honoree and being invited to speak on a panel at the 2022 NHPA Independents Conference in Dallas.

What is the best part of your job?
I like the flexibility and spontaneity that comes with it. Every day is different and offers many different types of challenges that need to be solved.

What is the best piece of professional advice you’ve ever been given?
Be patient. Great things will come in time but don’t happen overnight. You’ll have many years to leave your mark.

How do you stay involved in the community?
We try to give as much back to the community as possible through sponsorships and fundraisers. Also, starting in 2024, I will be a board member of the Jasper Chamber of Commerce.

When you were a kid, what did you want to be when you grew up?
I never knew what I wanted to be when I grew up, only that I didn’t want to be part of the family business. It’s funny how that turned out.

What kind of music do you like to play in the store?
It changes day to day depending on who else is working. There is always a battle over what is on the radio.

What do you do for fun when you’re not working?
When I’m not working, I enjoy hanging out with friends, playing video games and watching movies.
