The North American Retail Hardware Association (NRHA) is always looking for opportunities to meet independent home improvement retailers. On May 28, NRHA Director of Retail Outreach Tom Marcum visited two stores to connect with owners and learn more about their businesses.
Marcum’s first stop was Warnimont’s Do it Best Hardware and Rental in Wood Dale, Illinois, where he met with owner Jeff Warnimont. Marcum says he was impressed with the energetic culture of the store and Warnimont’s dedication to consistent improvement of his business.
His second stop was Roselawn True Value in Roselawn, Indiana, where he met with owner John Morgin and store manager Daren Padgett. Marcum says he learned a lot about their business from that visit. The company has expanded its pet department, adding a high-end pet food brand, which has resulted in growth of 1,100 percent in the first month. Additionally, the store has an impressive fastener section and a growing niche chrome department that accommodates biker customers.
“I really enjoy visiting with retailers in their stores because it provides an opportunity to learn about many unique businesses,” says Marcum. “It also gives me a chance to form a relationship with NRHA members, which allows the association to help them grow moving forward.”
