Deadline for Retail Management School Scholarship Applications This Friday

The North American Retail Hardware Association (NRHA) has extended the scholarship application deadline to Friday, May 23, for the upcoming class of the Retail Management Certification Program. NRHA is offering two $5,000 scholarships to the summer 2014 session of the class.

If selected to receive one of the scholarships, the candidate must be enrolled (or have submitted an application for enrollment) in the Summer 2014 Session of program and must meet all program eligibility requirements.

A panel of judges consisting of NRHA staff and Board Members will review scholarship applications and select and award the scholarships. Recipients will be notified they have been selected no later than May 30.

Candidates can apply by completing the application form on www.nrha.org/rmcp (click here for application form) and submitting to NRHA, along with the applicant’s Retail Management Certification Program Application for Admission Form. Both forms must be received at NRHA’s headquarters by May 15 to be eligible.

“We’re delighted to be offering these two scholarships as part of the program in 2014,” says Scott Wright, NRHA vice president of Member Services. “It’s a way to help offset the cost of attending what has become the industry’s premier program focused on developing future retail leaders.”

About the Retail Management Certification Program

NRHA launched the Retail Management Certification Program in 2013 to provide business owners with a way to develop and deepen the leadership and management skills of key, high-potential individuals within their companies. It’s a six-month, college-level program developed in conjunction with Butler University’s Graduate School of Business and Corporate Education and Consulting division.

The curriculum covers:

  • Leadership Development
  • Applied Business Strategy
  • Marketing, Sales and Customer Service
  • Operations Best Practices
  • Finance and Accounting
  • Human Resources Management and
  • Application of Retail Technology

The structure of the school includes three visits to Indianapolis for an intensive, interactive learning experience. It also includes online preparation based upon the Harvard Business School Case Study method.

“One of the key elements of the course is that each student is required to prepare a business plan focused on a major business improvement project,” Wright says. “This is designed to provide a return investment in the student’s tuition. What’s amazing is that several of the students in the previous class have already paid for their entire tuition by implementing the projects they selected as part of the course.”

Students are also assigned a Butler University professor who serves as his or her business coach throughout the course. This coach works with the business owner and the student to design a customized learning plan prior to the program. This helps tailor the learning experience to better meet each student’s individual needs.

Dates of the 2014 Summer Session include:

  • Visit 1: July 15-18
  • Visit 2: Sept. 16-19
  • Visit 3: Nov. 11-14
