3 Must-Haves for Your Outdoor Living Department

With a 7,000-square-foot showroom dedicated to outdoor living products, Seashore Ace Home & Outdoor Living is a go-to store for outdoor furniture, accessories, grills and more.

Located on the Jersey Shore in the small borough of Stone Harbor, New Jersey, Seashore Ace serves customers with beach houses, vacation rentals and inland homes throughout the state and beyond.

Owner Jim Fisher says nearly 30 percent of his store’s sales are in outdoor living and barbecue.

He has found success in these categories by focusing on high-end outdoor furniture that lasts in a beach environment, but also stocking options at lower price points. Additionally, the store offers custom furniture design services for customers to create the outdoor living spaces of their dreams.

Read on to discover best practices from Fisher, who shares insights that you can apply to your own operation, no matter what part of the country you live in and what your customers’ outdoor living needs are.

Selling Essentials

3 Best Practices for success in Outdoor Living

  • Offer delivery and assembly.
“Delivery is crucial to our success,” Fisher says. “We own three trucks we use just for outdoor furniture, and they can do 20 to 25 deliveries in a day.”
  • Choose the right manufacturers.
“Pick furniture companies with good reputations that offer several price points,” he says. “Options for composite furniture are also big on customers’ wish lists.”
  • Buy early to avoid supply issues.
“We start buying for the next year in July, when the early buy discounts typically start,” Fisher says. “We’ve bought more than twice our early buy than we’ve done in the past.”
