What Are Your Plans for 2017?

A new year is here! What are your personal and professional goals or plans for 2017? We talked with a few industry professionals to see what they wanted to accomplish in 2017.

Whether it’s time management, human resources, product knowledge or merchandising, there are always areas where you can improve.

We want to take some time to define all staff members’ roles. This will ensure each member of our team knows what is expected of them and all staff understand the part that everyone plays in our success.
—Christine Hand, Handyman Home Hardware

I want to work on delegating more. I think that will help me manage my time better. Delegating doesn’t sound difficult, but it’s always much harder to do than you’d expect it to be.
—Alison Farrington, Do it Best Corp.

We’re going to tear out and completely redo our kitchen and flooring departments. I also want to work with our team to prepare ahead of time for inspections with our distributors.
—Chrissy Busscher, Picton Home Hardware

I want our sales staff to know how to access videos to assist customers, as well as find some new products and niches to grow our business.
—Dave Umber, Umber’s Do it Best Hardware

Our primary focus will be staff development and enrichment. We believe when our team feels more confident, they will do an even better job serving our customers.
—Jake Smith, Jared’s Ace Hardware
