Preserving Summer’s Bounty

Whether hobby farmer or urban gardener, fall is the time to harvest the fruits of the labor. Help them preserve their fruits and vegetables with canning tools and equipment.

  • Canning and food storage: In addition to stocking canning supplies and equipment, train your housewares staff so they can answer customers’ questions. Understanding the project and convincing the customer that it’s easy and worth their time is essential. A few products to stock are a cooking timer, food scale, canning jars, two-piece jar caps, steam-pressure cooker, recipe book and canning instruction book.
  • Meat storage: If hunting is a popular sport in your area, expand your housewares assortment to include meat preparation and storage equipment. Such products include butchering knives, meat grinders, sausage makers and food sealer that vacuum packs meat so it lasts all winter.
