Target Supports Employee Health, Gifts Fitbit Trackers

Several large corporations have invested in Fitbit devices to motivate their employees to improve their health, and Target has joined the club.

Target is offering activity trackers from Fitbit Inc. to its 335,000 U.S. employees. This move is an attempt to improve workers’ fitness levels and reduce their health care costs, according to Bloomberg Business.

The Target deal is one of Fitbit’s largest corporate accounts, the article adds. Through the corporate agreements, Fitbit offers employers a digital dashboard where companies can see employees’ activity data, like number of steps taken in a day, as recorded by the Fitbit trackers. In addition, Fitbit allows companies to organize competitions and incentives to get workers moving.

Target employees will receive the most basic device, a clip-on tracker, for free. The workers who opt in will be placed on teams for a monthlong competition, and the winning team will get to pick a charity to receive a $1 million donation.

As companies search for ways to improve their employees’ health, reduce health insurance costs and boost morale, offering products like activity trackers may be a solid investment.

Consider investing in fitness trackers or partnering with a local facility to offer reduced rates on gym memberships for your employees. Encourage workers to get active and motivate each other by competing against one another.

By creating a fun and healthy team, you will not only help prevent sick days and but will also establish a positive work culture.
