There’s a new color ready to jump from the movie theater screen onto products available for purchase. It’s called Minion Yellow.
The Pantone Color Institute® recently released Minion Yellow, which is the first new color coming from the company in three years. Pantone is known as an authority on color across industries, and each year selects a color of the year. Marsala was its winner for 2015.
Founded in 1962, Panton has introduced nearly 1,700 distinct colors to the world, according to an article by The New York Times.
Minion Yellow is named for the summer movie “Minions,” which features the popular goggle-wearing characters from the “Despicable Me” movies.
Companies have already made moves to incorporate the color into their products. For paint projects, home decor, fashion and more, this color might just provide “hope, joy and optimism,” according to Leatrice Eiseman, executive director of the Pantone Color Institute.
“Color is contextual and right now there is a desire for colors that are more vibrant and uplifting. This is especially the case with the yellows, so given the worldwide popularity of the Minions, it seemed only natural to name a color after a character for the first time in our history,” vice president Laurie Pressman says.
