Lawn and Garden Trends on Display at IGC Chicago

Lawn and garden retailers making plans for spring 2017 had plenty to see at the Independent Garden Centers (IGC) Show Chicago, held August 16-18 at Navy Pier Festival Hall.

Vendors specializing in lawn and garden products were on hand to show off the latest fashions and trends in the category. Here are some of the trends Hardware Retailing staff spotted as they walked the show floor.

Children’s tools are growing in popularity, as more youngsters are excited work in the garden. Tool manufacturers now have a children’s counterpart to many lawn and garden tools and accessories, including shovels, rakes, gloves, boots and more.

Home décor items with outdoor themes continue to show up in both indoor and outdoor living spaces. Silk-screened pillows were popular, especially those made with organic materials.

 

 

Back to Nature

Art made with natural materials, such as reclaimed wood, stone, cloth, paper and even leaves, had a strong showing at IGC Chicago. These décor elements create the connection between the outdoors and the indoors. They can be a strong addition to the gift or home décor category.

 

zenFocus on Tranquility

Another popular trend was a new twist on the Zen garden. These bring the garden anywhere, including the home or office. Small stones featuring a short message or encouraging word add some tranquility to any space.

There are more ways to make a statement in your garden. One example shown at the IGC Show includes replacing the rooster on a weathervane with something like the mascot from your favorite school or sports team. Vendors are finding more ways to personalize items, giving retailers options for every customer.

Fairy Gardening is still a favorite with consumers, especially using plants that are low maintenance and function well in small spaces. These small gardens can be placed inside and out. Fairy gardening manufacturers at the show also featured seasonal products for consumers.
