Trophy Display Promotes Business

The hunting and fishing trophies on display at Horicon Hardware Hank & Rental serve multiple purposes.

For one, owner and manager David Konrath gets to show off a bear and the antlered deer heads that are the prizes of his and his daughter’s hunting trips.

The store, located in Horicon, Wisconsin, offers more display space—and a larger audience—than his home does, Konrath says.

The stuffed animal heads also serve as eye-catching decor, inspiring questions and comments from customers.

Konrath and his daughter can’t take credit for all the kills, though. Local taxidermists have contributed fish and other wildlife, which they have mounted for display, to the trophy wall. Small paper signs alongside the trophies list the names of the taxidermists.

That’s an additional benefit of the display: Konrath can help promote other local businesses by simply allowing them to add to his decor.
